When you're cremated, how do they deal with implanted, metallic medical things?
Mar 31, 2007 by Tony S | Posted in Other - Society & Culture
As the owner of a 10 inch long titanium hip, I'm curious about how that's dealt with technically by funeral homes. At most of the funerals I've been to involving cremations, the urn, box, or whatever they call it, seems too small to accommodate something
There is a large magnet that removes any metal pieces, and they are disposed of, they are not placed in with the ashes. The only thing removed prior to cremation is a pacemaker, as is can explode and damage the bricks of the crematory retort. Other

6" = 42 cubic inches
7" = 87 cubic inches
10" = 202 cubic inches
For example; A 175 pound person, would yield 175 cubic inches

35 cubic inches of cremains, and would fit into a 6" urn.

Mom proudly displays Dad
Mom proudly displays Dad in this urn in her assisted living apartment. After keeping Dad in a cardboard cylinder in the garage on the workbench near his tools, where he was most at home for a couple of years, Mom had to move to an assisted living facility. Since she talks to him every day, we had to prepare Dad for the move. He wasn't too happy about it, and he was pretty upset that we spent so much money for his new home, especially since the old one was free from the crematorium. He also wasn't too happy about being stuck in the same room with Mom all the time, because now he'd have to listen to her talking all day. When I told him the urn was pretty soundproof, he said ok. So I poured him in. He just fit, but I spilled a little of him on the workbench.He was ok with that. I guess we'll get the matching one for Mom when the time comes. Dad said to wait for a good sale, and be sure there's enough room for a phone so she won't nag him all day...

Beautiful Urn
The urn was more then I expected. It is beautiful and looks lovely in my home. I purchased it for my father whom I was very close to. It is so comforting to have him near me everyday.
Great urn
I used this daily. I keep my brown sugar in it. So when people come over, they say "Whoa dude who's in the urn!?" and I say "It's my Uncle Albert - he tastes pretty sweet!" and I immediately open it and scoop out a spoonful of "ashes" and eat it! Immediately someone screeches or faints or pukes. It's loads of fun! Works on strangers, mailmen, ugly neighbors, just about anyone with a sense of humor, or lack thereof! Try it today! PS: Use brown sugar and not actual ashes.

Woman finds human cremated remains in box on Sprague
22.02.12
SPOKANE—A woman found a box filled with human cremains, and she has been trying to find the deceased woman’s family for two months.
Ana Watson says she found the cremains in an urn sitting along Sprague Avenue in Spokane near several taverns and homeless shelters.
She says they are the cremains of Naomi Lynn Walker, who died back in 2008.
Ana says she even posted an ad on Craigslist to help find the family. When KREM 2 heard about the story, crews began making phone calls to help out. KREM 2’s Katie Utehs eventually found Naomi Walker’s brother, Ben LeRoy.
Ben lives in Snohomish, Washington which is where Walker died of a heart attack when she was 54 years old. He says his nephew had the cremains, and he may have been homeless in Spokane. Ben says he had no idea his sister’s remains were missing.
Katie Utehs was able to connect Ben with Ana, and they say Naomi’s remains will finally be reunited with her family.
