MORRISTOWN The village will welcome its newest business Saturday morning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at IslandView Funeral Services, 300 Main St.
We want to show off the facility and our services and the beautiful views of the St. Lawrence, owner Russell B. Lawrence III said. There has been a lot of interest in the old house.
The ceremony will take place at 11:30 a.m.
One of eight buildings in the village on the National Register of Historic Places, the cup-and-saucer style Paschal Miller House was built in the early 19th century and is one of the oldest known dwellings in the village. The 1½-story frame structure with a hipped roof features a wrap-around porch on three sides and an accompanying carriage barn, Mr. Lawrence said.
Its a beautiful old place in a great location with wonderful views of the river. Its a startup business for the village of Morristown. Were hoping to fill a need, he said, adding that the neighboring communities of Brier Hill, Hammond, Edwardsville and Macomb do not have a funeral home.
